Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Manager and in a context of continuous improvement—where initiative and teamwork are essential—the Team Lead – Production Drawings is responsible for coordinating production drawing activities, programming, production launch, and managing and prioritizing requests from the planning department.

They must actively contribute to the development of departmental tools to improve execution, increase productivity, accuracy, and the quality of the work done by their team. The Team Lead must ensure consistency in work methods, documentation, details, and drawing procedures.

As a reference for technical knowledge, internal processes, and expertise, the Team Lead must also be operational—meaning they are expected to rigorously produce production drawings just like the rest of the team.

The Team Lead fulfills four core roles: mentor, liaison with external stakeholders, problem-solving expert, and mediator. Based on these roles, their responsibilities include coaching, mentoring, facilitation, problem resolution, performance evaluation (both of the team and individuals), training, and communication.

The design team encompasses several professional areas, such as approval drawings, production drawings, CNC programming, and production launching. The Team Lead – Production Drawings must work closely with their counterpart, the Team Lead – Approval Drawings, and with the estimation, project management, production, and planning teams.

Effective communication and healthy collaboration are essential to ensure proper production, optimal execution, and smooth project delivery—with the ultimate goal of enhancing customer experience. They must ensure their team provides the factory with a continuous workflow to prevent any disruption that could halt production.

The role requires identifying and reporting any anomalies to the immediate supervisor through effective communication, exercising sound judgment, and taking necessary action to resolve issues.

As with all members of the Norbec family, the person in this role must act professionally, represent the company image faithfully, and embody the organization’s values and culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the team’s work and priorities
  • Manage payroll under the supervision of the Manager
  • Mentor and coach team members
  • Participate in the hiring process
  • Weekly data analysis and performance reporting for the team
  • Analyze time sheets and other forms
  • Coordinate and prioritize projects closely with the planning team
  • Attend or lead departmental, interdepartmental, and organizational meetings
  • Prepare production documentation
  • Create 3D models and production drawings
  • Occasionally create and revise approval drawings
  • Occasionally create assembly plans and detail revisions
  • Gather project information from project managers
  • Respond to internal and external support requests
  • Participate in strategic goals and continuous improvement processes
  • Train and supervise new draftspeople
  • Develop tools to enhance departmental productivity and quality
  • Perform other related duties

Professional Profile:

  • DEC in Mechanical Engineering or DEP in Industrial Drafting, Building Drafting, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment

Assets:

  • Experience in commercial construction
  • Knowledge of Epicor ERP software
  • Familiarity with SharePoint
