Norbec Wins 1st Place at the 2025 MCA Design Awards

Norbec is proud to announce that two of our recent projects have been recognized at the 2025 Design Awards organized by the Metal Construction Association (MCA).

  • Woodbine Theatre Project in Etobicoke, Ontario: 1st Place, Insulated Metal Panels (IMP) category
  • Écoparc Saint-Bruno in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec: 2nd Place, Insulated Metal Panels (IMP) category

These prestigious recognitions celebrate innovation, architectural quality, and outstanding execution. They highlight projects where the performance of our products helped bring bold visions to life.

A Landmark Project for Toronto’s Entertainment Scene

The Woodbine Theatre is part of a major expansion of the Woodbine Casino resort, developed by Great Canadian Gaming Corporation. The site features a 5,000-seat multipurpose theatre, hotel accommodations, a conference center, restaurants, and indoor parking, all spread across 33 acres. Designed by CGL Architects, the building stands out for its strong architectural identity and high-performance building envelope. The panel installation was expertly carried out by Bothwell Accurate, a trusted partner recognized for its work on large-scale projects.

A Model of Sustainable Architecture in Quebec

The Écoparc Saint-Bruno, developed by Groupe Montoni, is a benchmark in sustainable architecture. Designed to meet the highest standards of eco-construction, the project integrates innovative solutions to minimize its environmental footprint. Among its standout features is the largest private green roof in Canada, which reduces urban heat islands while promoting biodiversity.

Norbec’s insulated metal panels played a central role in meeting the project’s demanding performance and sustainability requirements, helping Écoparc Saint-Bruno stand out as a leader in modern, environmentally responsible design.

Showcasing the Performance of Noroc-L®

The theatre’s entire exterior envelope was built using 6-inch-thick Noroc-L® mineral wool core panels from Norbec. This product was chosen for its superior fire resistance, excellent thermal performance, and long-lasting durability. The panels were installed both vertically and horizontally, using a combination of smooth finish and micro-rib profiles. The color scheme adds to the visual impact, featuring Imperial White on the interior and a custom Champagne Bronze on the exterior. A decorative architectural screen was added to further enrich the façade, reinforcing the identity and visual rhythm of the project.

A Testament to Innovation and Teamwork

Together, these two awards reflect the strength of collaboration between project stakeholders and demonstrate Norbec’s ability to deliver tailored solutions for complex design challenges. They reinforce our leadership in insulated metal panel systems and highlight our ongoing commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainable building design.
