Insulated Metal Panels for a Performance-Driven Data Center Build

Norbec Insulated Metal Panels were used to construct the building envelope of the new QScale Data Center in Lévis, Québec. The fins, Architectural Elements designed by Norbec, were added to the envelope, giving the building texture, depth, and a refined aesthetic.

With tight construction deadlines and high thermal performance requirements, the project team selected Norbec’s Norex-L and Norex-H insulated metal panels. These panels allowed for rapid installation while delivering the envelope efficiency and durability required for a data center environment.

About QScale and This Project

QScale develops future-ready AI data centers engineered for large-scale training, inference, and HPC.  Its Q01 campus, designed for advanced AI infrastructure, received the “North AmericanData CenterProject of the Year” award.

In addition to server rooms and technical spaces, the QScale campus incorporates an energy recovery system designed to support future green initiatives such as adjacent greenhouse heating. The 24,280 m² facility includes QScale’s five-storey head office, where an exposed mass timber structure and expansive curtain walls introduce warmth and openness. Norbec’s custom façade fins contribute a layer of visual detail to a streamlined, performance-focused envelope.

About Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes (MSDL)

MSDL is a Montréal-based architectural firm with over 120 professionals. Known for integrating sustainability and technical rigor into their work, the firm has delivered numerous large-scale projects across Quebec. Their approach balances environmental responsibility with efficient, buildable design which was well aligned with the goals of the QScale data center project.

A Practical Envelope Solution for Tight Timelines

This project shows how insulated metal panels can help meet tight construction schedules while providing the thermal performance. Fast installation helped ensure the building was closed in time for winter, which is important for keeping the project on schedule, protecting materials, and allowing interior work to continue without delays.

IMPs are a practical choice for projects that require energy efficiency, reliable scheduling, and coordination with other façade components. Norbec’s Norex panels offer a reliable way to meet energy performance goals while staying on schedule, with the added benefit of expert support for design and installation coordination.
