Norbec IMPs Deliver a Distinctive New Look for No Frills
No Frills selected Norbec insulated metal panels (IMPs) for the building envelope of its new 22,000 sq. ft. grocery store in Komoka, Ontario. Located in the growing Kilworth Heights West development, the project represents one of Loblaw’s first next-generation grocery store prototypes, establishing a new benchmark for future retail developments. Designed to support a more contemporary “modern market” aesthetic, the store combines architectural appeal with the operational efficiency expected from a hard-discount grocery model.
Designed by CS&P Architects, the building envelope utilizes a combination of NOROC® and NOREX-L® panels in smooth Charcoal with a micro-ribbed profile and smooth Element Grey with no profile. The IMP system helped create a clean, modern façade that complements the mix of steel and wood accents throughout the design, giving the store a distinctive architectural presence within the community.
This project demonstrates how IMPs can support contemporary retail design without compromising construction efficiency. By integrating insulation, air barrier, vapor barrier, and finished exterior surfaces into a single prefabricated system, Norbec panels helped deliver a streamlined installation process and a modern architectural appearance, an approach well suited for today’s grocery and retail developments.
