CLIENT OVERVIEW

The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation sought an expansion that would redefine entertainment experiences. Nestled in Toronto, the Woodbine expansion, unveiled on May 3, 2024, offers a multifaceted destination. This project seamlessly integrates a 5,000-seat multipurpose theatre, diverse culinary options, and two luxurious hotels with recreational amenities – all within a cohesive entertainment complex.

INTRODUCTION

The Woodbine Theatre project exemplifies innovation and efficient construction.

Spanning 70,000 square feet, the building showcases the aesthetic and functional use of fire-rated insulated metal panels (IMPs).

Led by CGL Architects and meticulously installed by Bothwell Accurate, this project sets a new standard for entertainment venue construction.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

The Woodbine Theatre Project faced several obstacles on the
way to completion, but careful planning and creative solutions
overcame them all:

Finding a fire-resistant material that complied with strict regulations and could be implemented within a tight timeline was crucial to ensure project completion before winter.

The unique design and tall building also presented some logistical difficulties. Handling panels as long as 46 feet, especially with the added complication of incorporating decorative mesh, required a lot of accuracy an skill.

The project also required adjusting to the building’s unusual structure, which emphasized the need to be flexible and inventive.

CUSTOM NORBEC SOLUTION

To meet the project’s 2-hour fire rating requirement, a 6-inch thick, fire-rated mineral fiber core panel was chosen. The engineering process demanded more intricate calculations due to the building’s unique design. Through close collaboration with the architects and installers, these challenges were successfully addressed.
